As a hockey mom for the past ten years, I have learned a few survival tricks along the way. I can’t even tell you the amount of hours I have spent in a freezing cold hockey rink watching my two boys practice and play, and waiting while they get ready. If I had to guess, I would say it’s somewhere around 4,752 hours. Approximately. When you spend that much time in a rink you figure out the must have items. Are you ready?

This jacket is a game-changer! I once sat in the rink freezing and trying to tell myself that I was good with a nice blanket and a regular jacket. Game after game, while I sat shivering, I watched hockey parents walk by with a lit up button on their jackets or vests (indicating the heat was on) warmly enjoying the hockey game. They weren’t going to the warm room between periods to warm up. I eventually thought, “I need one!” If I’m being completely honest, I bought it during baseball season. In Maine, baseball season starts off very chilly. My kids play baseball, lacrosse, football and hockey and I use this jacket during EVERY sport. This jacket makes a perfect holiday gift for the sports parent in your life. Or better yet, splurge on yourself! Afterall, you deserve it for driving all over creation for your athletes!
2. Bogg Bag
This sturdy, washable, and waterproof bag is a must-have for sports moms. How many times do you find yourself walking from the car to the rink or field trying to balance a million things in your arms? One time is too many if you ask me! This bag (19x15x9.5) fits your blanket, snacks and drinks for in between games, activities for siblings along for the ride, a book to read while you’re waiting for your athlete to take the ice/field, or even your current knitting or craft project. This bag comes with a set of two clear insert bags to store smaller items you want to keep contained within the bag. Bonus! It comes in tons of different colors AND you can accessorize your bag to stand out from the crowd.
3. Owala FreeSip Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle
A quality drink bottle is always in order when you’re a hockey mom. If you’re like my family, you’re always on the road to the next tournament, and it’s usually not minutes away! Stay hydrated with this double walled insulated bottle that keeps cold drinks cold for up to 24 hours. Accessorize with a boot to protect from dents and scratches too! Great gift idea for the hockey parent or athlete in your life!
This definitely isn’t an exhaustive list of must-have items, but it’s a start! I hope this gets you started on the path to comfort and style at the hockey rink or on the sports field while watching the ones you love play their favorite sports. Stay tuned for more ideas!
